Man Utd stubborn over Berbatov fee

By Andrew Tuft

Friday 13 July 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson will not allow Dimitar Berbatov to leave Manchester United on the cheap this summer, with the Daily Mail reporting the Premier League side will not accept less than £10m for the former Tottenham Hotspur striker.

Malaga and Paris Saint-Germain, two European sides backed by oil money, have both expressed an interest in the Bulgarian but have thus far been put off by United’s stance. Berbatov has been told he can leave Old Trafford, the Mail adds, but United will not lower their valuation of the 31-year-old despite Berbatov only starting five Premier League games last season.

Berbatov was signed in 2008 for £31m but last season fell to fourth in the United strikers’ pecking order, below Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez. Berbatov has scored around a goal every three games for United, netting 56 times in 149 appearances, as well as racking up 46 goals in 102 appearances for Tottenham.
