Tottenham give the go-ahead to Pienaar’s Everton move

Saturday 14 July 2012

New Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas will allow Steven Pienaar to complete his permanent return to Everton this summer if the clubs agree a fee, the Liverpool Echo has reported.

Villas-Boas is said to have confirmed he will not stand in the South African’s way provided the clubs can agree terms for the transfer. Pienaar originally joined Spurs from Everton for a fee of £3m in January 2011, when the midfielder had entered the last six months of his contract at Goodison Park.

Pienaar however struggled to force his way into the Tottenham side under Harry Redknapp, playing only 18 games in the 12 months he spent at White Hart Lane. The 30-year-old made a late loan switch to Everton in January, the deal completed in the dying minutes of the transfer window, with Pienaar immediately returning to David Moyes’ starting XI and scoring within minutes of his first home match back against Chelsea.
