Sunday 15 July 2012

The agent, Harry Lulofs, of Newcastle target Vurnon Anita, has expressed the player’s interest in making the move to Tyneside this summer.

Reported in the Mirror, Lulofs has suggested that Anita wants to speak to the Magpies but first wants to discuss his current club’s, Ajax, vision. Lulofs said:

“This is serious interest from Newcastle. A move to the Premier League is so tempting for him. We have to resolve the situation quickly.”

But Anita himself is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and wishes to speak to the new Ajax Club Sporting Director, Marc Overmars. The player said:

“I’ve two years left on my contract. But I want some clarity from Ajax about my future. We are having a meeting with Marc Overmars, the club’s new sporting director, to get a clear view of what the club want.”

Newcastle are thought to have made a bid in the region £5 million for the 23-year-old Dutch international which was rejected, but now Alan Pardew is ready to come back with an offer of £8 million.

Anita made his debut for Ajax at the tender age of 16 years old and has since gone on to play a total of 137 games for the club, scoring 7 goals from the back. He is known to be a versatile player, featuring both in a defensive midfield position and on the left side of defense.

Alan Pardew continues to be busy in the transfer window, he his hoping to tie up deals with Lille right back Mathieu Debuchy and Twente defender Douglas in the coming weeks.
