Liverpool reject Newcastle loan offer for Carroll

Monday 16 July 2012

Liverpool have rejected a loan approach for England striker Andy Carroll from Carroll’s former club Newcastle United, BBC Sport has reported.

The BBC adds that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is not inclined towards letting Carroll leave on loan, or at least not on the terms offered by the Magpies. Newcastle’s bid reportedly included an agreement on a price for a permanent move next summer, with Liverpool preferring a sale during this transfer window and Carroll preferring to remain at Anfield and prove his worth to Rodgers. West Ham United have also expressed an interest in signing Carroll on loan.

Carroll initially struggled at Liverpool following his £35m January 2011 move to Merseyside but appeared to hit his stride late last season, scoring against Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League, Everton in the FA Cup semi-final and Chelsea in the final of the same competition. Carroll also netted a spectacular header against Sweden for England at Euro 2012.
