Liverpool admit enquiry for Fulham star Dempsey

Thursday 19 July 2012

Liverpool have asked Fulham about the availability of their United States international midfielder Clint Dempsey, but manager Brendan Rodgers stressed that is as far as the move has gotten, the Independent has reported.

A report on the official website of Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, claimed the club had signed Dempsey, leading to Fulham releasing a statement to the contrary. According to the Independent, the headline on the FSG-posted article read: “Fabio Borini, Liverpool gear up for North American Tour as Clint Dempsey joins club.

Rodgers admitted that Liverpool had made their interest in Dempsey known but it is thought the clubs disagree on the valuation of the player. The Independent suggests that Liverpool will only move for Dempsey if their other targets come to naught, and that the issue may run until late into the transfer window.

Last season Dempsey made 45 appearances for Fulham, scoring 25 goals, including the only goal of the game as Fulham defeated Liverpool at Craven Cottage in December.
