Liverpool owner Henry hails inspirational Rodgers

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been described as “inspirational” by the man who oversaw his appointment, Reds owner John W. Henry, according to an interview the head of Fenway Sports Group has given to the Liverpool Echo.

Rodgers moved to Liverpool earlier this summer after a guiding Swansea to a successful first season in the Premier League. Rodgers’ exploits at the Liberty Stadium earned him the chance to replace Kenny Dalglish when Dalglish was sacked at the end of a disappointing Premier League campaign.

Henry, speaking to the Liverpool Echo ahead of Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States, praised Rodgers for his approach to the game and predicted success for the Northern Irishman in his time at Anfield. While Henry was also at pains not to put too much pressure on the shoulders of Rodgers, he insisted Rodgers’ application would deliver results.

You can see why he was appointed. He’s an inspirational figure. He’s very charismatic, he’s smart, he knows what he wants to accomplish and he’s determined to accomplish it,” Henry said.

Henry added a cautionary note, however, when he continued: “We don't want to put any pressure on Brendan by saying you have got to make the Champions League this year.
