Modric misses Tottenham training amid desire for Madrid move

Saturday 21 July 2012

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric did not train late this week and may not travel with the club for their tour of the United States amid continued interest in the Croatia international from Real Madrid, the Guardian has reported.

Madrid are understood to have offered just under £25m for the 26-year-old, with the prospect of that figure rising to slightly over £31m, short of Spurs’ valuation of the player. Chairman Daniel Levy is not minded to accept anything less than the figure he has in mind and is not willing to entertain the idea of a cash-plus-player deal. Former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho and midfielder Nuri Sahin are amongst the players dangled in front of Levy to no avail.

The Guardian notes that unlike last summer, when Chelsea were Modric’s suitors and Levy was adamant the player was not leaving White Hart Lane, Levy is now open to a sale but only at the right price.

Tottenham are due to travel to the United States on Saturday and it is not yet known if Modric will also make the trip. Spurs play LA Galaxy, Liverpool and New York Red Bulls during their time across the Atlantic.
