Man Utd fear escalating van Persie price
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is worried that the price for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie could rise to over £30m as he battles with Premier League champions Manchester City and Serie A title-winners Juventus for the Gunners striker, the Daily Mail has reported.
All three clubs were said to have bid for van Persie this week, with Arsenal rejecting each offer as they all fell short of their valuation of the 28-year-old. The Mail claims United were willing to part with £8m for van Persie, with Juventus bidding £10m and City topping them all with £12m for the player whose contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in a year’s time. The bun fight for van Persie’s signature was sparked when he revealed he would not be renewing his Arsenal contract.
Ferguson however is said to be wary of the price rising too high, with fears spreading United will be forced to spend more than the £30.75m they paid Tottenham Hotspur for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.
