Man City chairman wants long-term success

Saturday 21 July 2012

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak is keeping his feet well and truly on the ground, despite the successes his team reached last season. Reported in the Manchester Evening News, Al Mubarak has spoken of his pride at winning the Premier League but also knows that they are someway off their rivals on the other side of Manchester.

He said: “United have set the benchmark. What they have accomplished in the last 20 years is incredible. It sets the benchmark for any club in the world in terms of success. We all have the highest respect for Sir Alex, we all have the highest respect for United as a team and what they have accomplished.

Speaking on the Champions DVD that Manchester City have produced for the year, it may seem odd that the man at the top is offering such high praise to the local rivals, but this seems to be a sign of intent. Since arriving at the club, Al Mubarak has overseen the winning of the Premier League trophy and the FA Cup, he now wants more.

He said: “We have to continue to fight. We have to continue to work hard and focus on the future and really try to achieve some of what Manchester United has been able to accomplish in the past. We always want to improve and get better and compete at all levels of competition.

City are currently in the midst of their preseason, most recently beating Beskitas 2-0 courtesy of goals from Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany.
