Sunday 22 July 2012

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric is set to be fined £80,000 for reportedly refusing to train, as the Croatian attempts to push through a move to Real Madrid, according to the Telegraph.

The 26-year-old reportedly failed to attend Friday’s training session, just a day before the Spurs squad flew out to begin their pre-season tour of America, with reports in Spain suggesting the player has fled home to Croatia as Spurs staff waited for him to report to Heathrow for the flight.

New Spurs Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas will fine the midfielder two week’s basic pay that equates to around £80,000 and Spanish newspaper AS have quoted Villas-Boas as saying: "I think Modric is wrong. This will go against him. He has worsened the situation with what he is doing and now the chairman is very angry.”

Modric has been linked in recent weeks with a move to La Liga champions Real Madrid in a deal worth around £30m, however, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy values the player at around £35m and will not be driven to accept less for a player who still has four-years left on his current contract at White Hart Lane.

The Croatian international will reportedly hand in an official transfer request as he seeks a move away from Spurs, who brought him to the Premier League in a £16.5m deal back in 2008.
