Modric camp to meet Madrid after Tottenham tour refusal

Monday 23 July 2012

The saga of Luka Modric’s transfer to Real Madrid has taken another turn after the Croatia international refused to travel with his Tottenham Hotspur teammates to the United States, with the Daily Telegraph now reporting that Modric’s representatives are due to meet with his Spanish suitors on Monday.

Modric faces a double punishment from Spurs, first for refusing to train on Friday and then for refusing to travel to Los Angeles for a pre-season friendly. Tottenham remain willing to sell Modric but only for the right price, which the Telegraph puts at close to £40m.

It was originally unknown where Modric was after his row with the club, with the 26-year-old now thought to have returned to Croatia to contemplate handing in an official transfer request. Madrid are thought to be unwilling to offer more than the £27m plus add-ons their bid currently stands at, but interest remains from Paris Saint-Germain as well as Chelsea.
