Newcastle to be patient in move for Liverpool’s Carroll

By Andrew Tuft

Monday 23 July 2012

Newcastle United are happy to wait to conclude a deal for Liverpool striker Andy Carroll, with the England international due to begin pre-season training under Brendan Rodgers this week, the Northern Echo has reported.

Rodgers had previously admitted that Carroll may struggle to fit in with the way in which he sees his Liverpool side playing, the Echo adds, sparking interest in the 23-year-old with his former club said to be at the forefront.

Newcastle have had an offer to take Carroll on loan with a view to a permanent £12m move rejected as Liverpool insist they will not agree to a temporary switch, but Newcastle are thought to be willing to wait and see if Liverpool change their mind.

The newspaper adds that Carroll has told friends he would like to return to Newcastle but his £80,000 per week wages would be a problem for any permanent transfer. However, Carroll is also only interested in returning to the club he left in January 2011 on an initial loan deal.
