Wenger believes van Persie is convinced by Arsenal spending
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes the Gunners have this summer spent enough in the transfer market to convince unsettled captain Robin van Persie of their lofty aims for the new Premier League season, the Daily Mirror has reported.
Wenger has drafted in a pair of international strikers, Germany’s Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud of France, and is said to be close to the capture of Spain midfielder Santi Cazorla. The Mirror note that if Cazorla does sign in at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal’s spending will top £40m.
Van Persie announced he would not be signing a new contract with the North London club, citing concerns over the ambition of the organisation, setting off a three-way bidding war for his services. Juventus, Manchester United and Manchester City were all chasing the Netherlands striker but no bids have yet been accepted, leading Wenger to believe that van Persie will stay at the club past the August transfer deadline. If that were to happen Arsenal would then re-open contract talks with their skipper.
