Juventus turn to Liverpool's Suarez after ending interest in van Persie

Serie A champions Juventus have given up their pursuit of Arsenal captain Robin van Persie and will instead attempt to prise Luis Suarez away from Liverpool, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Juventus were considered the favourites to sign van Persie from Arsenal after the Netherlands international rejected a new contract to stay at the Emirate Stadium past the end of his current deal, which expires next summer. But negotiations between the two clubs have not progressed, leading the Juventus hierarchy to turn to other options.

Chief among them is Suarez, with Juventus expected to make an offer for the Uruguayan in order to test Liverpool’s determination to keep him in the Premier League. The Mirror adds that Suarez was on Juventus’ original list of targets, along with van Persie and Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko.

The Mirror also suggest that Juventus are keen to discover if Suarez wants to remain in English football, after his much-publicised race row with Manchester United defender Patrice Evra and the resultant negative reaction Suarez receives at opposition grounds. Suarez was also booed while playing for Uruguay at the Olympics, and duly registered his dismay.

Hopefully Suarez and Agger do not leave. The club can not sell their best players otherwise they will fall further behind the teams that finished above them.
