Liverpool to face Hearts in Europa League

Friday 10 August 2012

Liverpool will face an all-British tie against Hearts in the Europa League play-off round, with the Scottish side providing a test for Brendan Rodgers, reports Liverpool TV.

Rodgers’ squad progressed through to the play-off round after a 4-0 aggregate win against Belarusian side FC Gomel and will now look forward to a trip to Scotland in the first leg. Hearts have experience playing an English side in this stage of the competition after facing Tottenham Hotspur last season.

Liverpool avoided a potentially tricky encounter in Norway against Molde and Rodgers’ will no doubt look to make safe passage to the group stage of this year’s competition, with the final due to be played in Amsterdam next May.

Early indications suggest Liverpool will take their participation in this year’s competition seriously, with a strong squad playing against Gomel on Thursday night. New signing Fabio Borini was amongst the scorers.

Ties are due to be played the week commencing August 20, with Liverpool travelling to Edinburgh on August 23, before returning to Anfield on August 30 for the concluding leg.
