Monday 13 August 2012

Tom Cleverley is happy to be back amongst the Manchester United camp and believes his time playing for Team GB will help him his progress in the new campaign. Reported in the Daily Mail, the 23-year-old had been speaking to MUTV after United’s final pre-season fixtures against Hannover in Germany.

Cleverley said: “I’ve been away for a few weeks now but to come back into a good game in a good stadium and be playing with the world class players we’ve got only helps your game, so it’s good to be back.

I think the Olympics has been good for me. I’ve got six games under my belt including the two friendlies so I feel 100 per cent. I’m happy and looking forward to the season.

The midfielder missed a large portion of last season after suffering ligament damage in September. After making his return in late October he picked up an ankle injury which kept him out of action until the middle of February, restricting him to just 10 league games.

Cleverley has been included in Roy Hodgson’s first England squad of the new season to face Italy on Wednesday night. So far Joe Hart, Daniel Sturridge and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all dropped out of the squad with injury problems and the start of the new Premier League season just three days after the international fixture.
