Villas-Boas lining up spending spree when Modric leaves Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas is lining up a spending spree once Luka Modric completes his move to Real Madrid, the Guardian has reported. Midfielders Joao Moutinho, Yann M’Vila and Gaston Ramirez are said to be the objects of Villas-Boas’ affection.
Modric’s protracted move to Madrid could be wrapped up within days, the newspaper adds. Suggestions in Spain put the fee for the Croatia playmaker at £26m, with more to be added on. That would still be substantially less than the £40m Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was originally understood to be holding out for, the Guardian notes. The newspaper adds however that Tottenham are likely to claim the fee for Modric is higher than the mooted £26m.
Villas-Boas has identified his compatriot Moutinho has his preferred replacement for Modric but it is feared the Portugal international will come at too high a price to move to White Hart Lane. Porto are thought to value Moutinho at £23.5m, while Spurs have already seen offers of £12m for M’Vila and £12.5m for Ramirez fall by the wayside.
