Wigan prepared to lose Chelsea target Moses for free next year

Wigan Athletic have warned Chelsea that they are prepared to risk losing Victor Moses on a free transfer next year rather than accept an offer below their valuation of the player now, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Chelsea have made a series of offers for the Nigerian forward but as yet have not matched the value put on Moses by Latics chairman Dave Whelan. Whelan is believed to be holding out for £10m with most of the fee paid up front. Roberto Martinez, the Wigan manager, backed his chairman’s stance, insisting he would also rather have the player for another year than see him leave for what the club believes is a cut-price.

Victor’s 21, he’s got a year left on his contract and my chairman is always very clear,” Martinez said, adding: “We would rather have Victor for a year rather than selling him under his value.” The manager admitted he would not stand in the way of a player who wanted to leave, as Moses has said he does, but stressed it was important for Wigan to receive a fair price for their players - particularly as they are under no financial pressure to sell.

Under 24 so won't be leaving on a free!

The problem with using other media for your sources is when they get it wrong so do you. Martinez never mentions losing him for free and indeed he wouldn't as because Moses is under 24 we will be awarded a tribunal fee if the clubs cannot agree as Mr Whelan has said on many occasions over the last few months
