Moyes keen on more Everton signings
Everton manager David Moyes hopes to make more signings before the close of the transfer window as he seeks to spend the windfall received from Jack Rodwell’s move to Manchester City, the BBC has reported.
Moyes added that Everton were under no pressure to sell Rodwell to the Premier League champions but felt the offer from City was one that would enable him to strengthen the squad in other areas. Moyes had already seen Joseph Yobo and Tim Cahill leave Goodison Park this summer, to Fenerbahce and New York Red Bulls respectively.
Coming in the opposite direction have been Rangers forward Steven Naismith, picked up on a free transfer after the Scottish club imploded, and Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Pienaar. Pienaar made a loan return to Everton in January and has since signed on permanently after leaving for Spurs in 18 months ago. The BBC put the cost of re-signing the South African at £4.5m.
Moyes said: “Hopefully I will try to add to the squad before the season starts,” adding: “It wasn't a necessity to do [sell players] this year but I felt it was the right thing and gave us a chance to have a look around to see what we could do. We are out there actively trying to bring in another couple of players at least”
