Pardew apologetic for linesman incident
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew offered a heartfelt apology to the linesman he pushed over during the Magpies’ 2-1 win over Tottenham at St. James’ Park, The Sun reports.
Pardew shoved assistant Stuart Burt on the touchline whilst remonstrating with him midway through the second half, after he felt his side should have been awarded a throw-in. The incident followed Demba Ba’s opening goal on Saturday evening and many were confused as to why Pardew was sent from the dugout, until TV replays showed the incident. The Newcastle boss admitted his guilt, which could see him punished by the FA, and apologised wholeheartedly to Burt.
Pardew said: “It was ridiculous really. I did go in and apologise afterwards. The linesman was right in front of me, I thought the ball went out and shoved him. I have been pleading with all my players this week to behave themselves and show Olympic spirit – and then I get sent off. I can only apologise.”
The Newcastle boss had to watch his side’s victory from the stands and would have been delighted with the resiliency of his side to get back into the game following Jermain Defoe’s equaliser. Pardew will most probably face a touchline ban and miss next weekend’s away fixture at Stamford Bridge to face the European champions Chelsea.
