Kompany confident Man City can cope without Aguero

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has insisted the Premier League champions can cope without the injured Sergio Aguero - but added he hopes the Argentina international returns to action soon, the Guardian has reported.

Aguero was felled by a Nathaniel Clyne challenge minutes into City’s first match of the season, eventually having to be stretchered off the field, although the striker did hobble to the touchline under his own power. Aguero later revealed on Twitter that the injury was not as serious as first feared.

Regardless, City face the prospect of being without a player who scored 30 goals last season, his first in the Premier League. Amongst them was the strike that finally clinched the title for Roberto Mancini’s side, Aguero netting in the dying minutes of the season against Queens Park Rangers after it looked as if Manchester United were going to pip City to the post.

Kompany said: “We lost Sergio, which was sort of a blow, but I just go back to when we lost Carlos for most of the season and coped well with that .I hope Sergio won't be out for that long [eight months] but I would point to last season where we had to cope with these kind of issues and we did it very well. If we have to, I'm sure we will again.
