Arsenal reach impasse with Real Madrid over Sahin loan

Tuesday 21 August 2012

A standoff has developed between Arsenal and Real Madrid over the loan transfer of midfielder Nuri Sahin, the Guardian has reported. Negotiations are set to continue but the disagreement centres around the future of the player once his season-long loan in the Premier League is over.

Arsene Wenger is keen to include a clause that allows the Gunners to sign Sahin permanently at the end of the season but Jose Mourinho is reluctant to sanction such a stipulation, fearful of losing the player if he finds his form between now and May. Madrid are willing to loan Sahin out after he failed to break into Mourinho’s XI following his move from Borussia Dortmund a year ago.

Wenger is attempting to plug the gap left in his midfield by the departure of Alex Song to Madrid’s fierce rivals Barcelona, although the Guardian points out Sahin is not an identikit replacement for the Cameroonian. Sahin, a Turkey international, is a more technical player than the physical song.
