QPR keen on Tottenham striker Defoe

Jermain Defoe could be set to leave Tottenham Hotspur as the club continues to chase Internacional striker Leandro Damiao having completed the signing of Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor, the Guardian has reported. Queens Park Rangers are said to be interested in signing the England international.

Defoe started the season as Tottenham’s only senior striker but Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas has said he wants only three first team forwards - with the third being 19-year-old Harry Kane. The thinking behind Villas-Boas’ stance is that in his formation, which plays only one central striker, having more strikers than three leads to players becoming unhappy at a lack of involvement. The young Kane is less likely to grow discontented.

With Adebayor now confirmed as a Tottenham player on a permanent basis Villas-Boas would appear to have his trio of strikers. Yet the Guardian claims the club is pushing ahead with a move for Damiao, even sending a representative to Brazil to finalise the deal.

If the move were to go ahead Villas-Boas would be left with four strikers, two of whom are new signings and one he himself has labelled as his third choice. That would leave Defoe facing an exit with QPR ready to pounce.
