Dempsey move from Fulham to Liverpool in doubt

Friday 31 August 2012

The transfer of United States international Clint Dempsey from Fulham to Liverpool may not go ahead as the two Premier League clubs cannot agree a fee, the BBC has reported.

Liverpool have made a formal offer for the 29-year-old but it has been flatly rejected by the Cottagers. An agreement between the two sides is said to be unlikely at such a late stage in the transfer window, with the BBC quoting a source from the Anfield club as saying Liverpool are unlikely to make any signings before the 11pm deadline.

Fulham had earlier accepted an offer for Dempsey from Aston Villa, only for that move to break down when the player rejected the chance to move to Villa Park.

Dempsey has been at Fulham since 2007, scoring 60 goals in 225 games for the London club. Last season Dempsey was particularly prolific, netting 23 times in 46 appearances for Martin Jol’s side.
