Wenger issues ultimatum to unhappy Arsenal players

Arsene Wenger has firmly laid down the law as he sees it at Arsenal, telling his players that they have a duty to support the club publically and if they are not happy with the way in which the club is run, they should move elsewhere, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Wenger’s comments come shortly after France right-back Bacary Sagna spoke about the sales of Robin van Persie and Alex Song, questioning the departure of the latter, but Wenger gave short shrift to the concerns of any of his players who may be similarly disaffected.

While the manager stressed he was not speaking directly about Sagna but all players - and has spoken with Sagna about his comments and revealed he expects the defender to sign a new contract - Wenger was unequivocal in his stance.

He said: “I believe any player or any employee always had to defend the company he works for and if he is not completely happy with it then he has to go somewhere else.

Wenger added that in recent years Arsenal have been unable to compete financially with other clubs to keep hold of their best players when their contracts ran down, but also that he believes the advent of Financial Fair Play will tip the balance in their favour in future negotiations.

Before van Persie moved on, both Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri moved to Manchester City, as previously had Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor, while Song has been reunited with Cesc Fabregas at Barcelona.
