Friday 21 September 2012

Emile Heskey has signed for Australian side Newcastle Jets after leaving Aston Villa over the summer, the BBC has reported. The A-League outfit are Heskey’s sixth employers, after spells at Liverpool and Wigan Athletic, amongst others.

Heskey made more than 60 appearances for England between 1999 and 2010, scoring seven goals and competing at World Cups in 2002 and 2010 and the 2000 and 2004 European Championships.

Starting out at Leicester City, Heskey moved to Liverpool in 2000, playing over 200 games in four years at Anfield before switching to Birmingham City. Two years in the Midlands came to an end with a move to Wigan. Aston Villa came calling 2009, with Heskey making more than 100 appearances for the club and scoring 14 times.

Newcastle Jets are making their return to Australia’s A-League after having their licence returned for the 2012/13 season. Former Everton and Arsenal striker Francis Jeffers played for Newcastle in recent years, while ex-Sunderland and Leeds United striker Michael Bridges is expected to partner Heskey in attack.
