Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Arsenal. Today:

Did Nasri dive?
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has accused Samir Nasri of diving to win the penalty which proved the turning point in last night’s Carling Cup clash. The Frenchman struck twice from the spot in extra time to send the Gunners into the last 16, and while the Spurs boss admitted the second incident was a clear penalty, he felt that the first was controversial. According to The Guardian, Arsene Wenger - who watched the match from the sidelines after accepting his misconduct charge yesterday morning - disagreed, insisting that the referee got it right on both calls. Redknapp also expressed surprise at the quality of talent Arsenal fielded, to which Wenger said: “We got a few reproaches that we didn't take the competition seriously. Also it was a derby. And to go out straight away would not be good for us. We have momentum and we didn't want to disrupt it.”
Gunners in for Vertonghen and Iraizoz.
According to a report on The First Post, Arsenal are lining up a double swoop for Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen and Spanish goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz. Vertonghen – who plays at Ajax, and did so while current Gunners defender Thomas Vermaelen was also there – is being reported in the Daily Mirror as being on Arsene Wenger’s radar. He has been linked with the Reds before, but is contracted to the Dutch giants until 2013 – though they are believed to be in dire financial straits, and a sale could ease their woes considerably. Athletic Bilbao stopper Iraizoz is also on the Frenchman’s wishlist, and is free to talk to Arsenal in the new year about a potential summer move to the Emirates as his contract is due to expire at the end of the current campaign.
Wilshere praised.
Arsenal’s rising star Jack Wilshere has received praise from team-mate Samir Nasri following the 18-year-old’s performance in the Carling Cup win over Spurs, according to The Telegraph. The Frenchman lauded Wilshere as a player with a big future, saying: “He's a really good player. Last year when he went (on loan) to Bolton it helped him because he played a lot of games with Bolton. Now he's ready to play and be a good player for Arsenal. And I think England need a player like him. Jack is a wonderful prospect for the future.” Wilshere made his England debut last month, but was then recalled into the U-21 squad by coach Stuart Pearce.
