Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Arsenal. Today:

Hughes wants new Schwarzer deal.
Fulham manager Mark Hughes hopes to end Arsenal’s interest in Australian keeper Mark Schwarzer by getting the 37-year-old Australian to sign a new deal. Schwarzer was the subject of persistent rumours regarding his future throughout the summer, but Arsene Wenger ultimately failed to land his top target after refusing to meet Fulham’s demands of around £4m. Hughes is quoted in the Daily Mail saying: “He's settled down and we're talking to him in terms of his future. He's got options. He's in the last year of his contract so we'd like to think his future lies here.”
Wenger backs Almunia.
Arsene Wenger has once again spoken out in support of under-fire stoppers Manuel Almunia and Lucasz Fabianski, saying that while he has no concerns over the latter’s ability, Almunia would have played if he was fit. The Guardian today reports that, when questioned about the Spaniard’s elbow injury which will keep him out of tonight’s Champions League trip to Partizan Belgrade, Wenger said: “No, I wouldn't have dropped him. The keeper is always the easy target, the easy scapegoat. But we win and lose together, even if people think he made a mistake on the second goal. Manuel is very low. He's disappointed. But the whole squad's very low. We had a good opportunity and did not catch it.”
Djourou delight.
Johan Djourou has told talkSPORT that he is simply happy to end the injury nightmare which plagued his season last term, and has said he is content to remain patient in the wait for first team opportunities. The 23-year old said: “At the moment I’m just so pleased to be back and that’s it. It was a hell of a season for me last time, with so many long months, so I’m simply glad to be here and trying to stay fit. Of course you always want to play but I know I’ve had a big injury that kept me out for a while so I have to be careful and patient. There are so many games in the season that there will surely be some rotation.”
