Man City news - City in huge 65m Pato move, Sheikh moves up footbal rich list, Newcastle want de Jong action

By James McLean

Wednesday 06 October 2010

Every morning A Different League searches the nations press to bring you the latest goings on at Manchester City. Today:

Sheikh moves up footbal rich list.

Man City owner Sheikh Mansour has returned to the top of football’s rich list after seeing his fortune rise by an estimated £3bn since taking over the Citizens in 2008. The news moves him back ahead of QPR major shareholder Lakshmi Mittal, whose fortune has dipped to £17bn according to ESPN.

Chief football administrator Brian Marwood, however, has told City fans that this summer’s spending spree will be the last for the club. Having spent over £100m on new players, Mansour’s overall spend has reached approximately £500m – with City announcing financial losses of £121m for the past year.

This figure does not meet UEFA’s new financial regulations should the club qualify for next season’s Champions League, which states clubs can lose no more than £39m for the next three seasons to be eligible for Europe’s top club competition.

City in huge 65m Pato move.

In seemingly contrasting news, however, The News of the World is reporting that the Blues are set to tempt Brazilian superstar Alexandre Pato to Eastlands from the San Siro. The 21-year-old is one of the world’s highest rated youngsters, and Roberto Mancini is thought to be preparing a mega bid of up to €65m in an effort to tempt an acceptance from AC Milan.

Pato has found himself with competition for places at the Rossoneri, with Ronaldino and Zlatan Ibrahimovic “picking themselves”. The arrival of Robinho – ironically from City themselves – has meant that Milan could have a ready replacement for Pato and be more willing to sell.

Peace FM Online adds that either defender Pablo Zabaleta or unsettled striker Emmanuel Adebayore could be added to the deal as potential makeweights to ease the transfer through.

Newcastle want de Jong action.

Newcastle defender Jose Enrique feels that City midfielder Nigel de Jong should be banned from football following the challenge which left new Newcastle signing Hatem ben Arfa with a double leg break on Sunday.

The incident is expected to keep ben Arfa out of action until March 2011 at the earliest. De Jong was not booked, but has since been dropped from the Dutch national side as a result. Sky Sports claims that the Magpies have approached the FA requesting a review of the challenge and a decision as to whether a ban is warranted, and the review has been agreed by the authorities.
