Gunners turn to Iraizoz for 'keeper problems.
Arsenal have turned their goalkeeping sights towards Athletic Bilbao stopper Gorka Iraizoz, but will face stiff competition from transfer rivals Barcelona who want the 29-year-old as cover for Victor Valdes.
Arsene Wenger very publically failed to land a new keeper during the summer and a string of names have been linked with north London, but Iraizoz appears the right age and talent to retain the No.1 jersey at the Gunners for the long-term.
In the same report on The First Post, Juventus have joined the race for Arsenal target Gregory van der Wiel of Ajax and Holland, and interest in the 22-year-old is thought to be extremely high.
Pep avoids Fabregas talk.
Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola has avoided talk of actively pursuing his continued interest in Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas.
The 23-year-old, who recently recovered from a hamstring injury, has remained open to a return to the Spanish outfit where he began his youth career, but when Sky Sports asked the Barca boss about a renewed bid he simply said: "It's a good question. Goodbye."
This summer the Catalans signed Javier Mascherano, but the Argentinian midfielder has failed to make a major impact since arriving in Spain, instead being preferred as a sub.
£50m transfer kitty.
Arsenal fans could be set for a transfer boost in the near future, as the club look set to receive some £50m over the next four years from sale of 375 apartments opposite the Emirates.
The news means that Arsene Wenger is likely to receive a constantly increased transfer budget until his present contract expires at the end of the 2013-14 campaign, according to The Telegraph. The apartments – located on Queensland Road, directly opposite the stadium – have already generated huge interest.
The news is likely to add further pressure on Wenger to get out his cheque book and spend some money in the transfer market, though the Frenchman has blamed a lack of availability of left sided players rather than financial constraints as the reason for not spending more this past summer.
