Arsenal news - Mannone wants out, Gunners set for lucrative pre-season, Wilshere to stay with U21's

By James McLean

Friday 08 October 2010

Mannone wants out.

Arsenal’s goalkeeping crisis could be coming to an end – at least if third-choice keeper Vito Mannone has anything to do with it.

The 22-year-old has criticised under-fire fellow keepers Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski, and the Daily Mail is reporting that the Italian believes his time to prove himself to the Gunners faithful is now.

He said: “Arsenal never lost a match when I played last season, but now they are trying again with Almunia. Fabianski was in goal when we played Chelsea. Why am I behind them in the pecking order? That’s one you need to ask Wenger. I’m eating my heart out at not being able to play - all the more because the other two keepers are not doing their job especially well.”

Gunners set for lucrative pre-season.

Arsenal look set to go on a lucrative pre-season tour overseas before the next campaign – and take the club outside of Europe for the first time since the Frenchman took the reins in 1996.

According to The Telegraph, the new financial fair-play rules being introduced by UEFA means that “the future hierarchy of European clubs will be increasingly influenced by who is most successful at maximising every possible revenue stream” – and Arsenal major shareholder Stan Kroenke is among those who will try to convince Wenger at the club’s next board meeting later this month that this is something which should at least be tried.

Wilshere to stay with U21's.

Jack Wilshere may remain with the England U-21 squad on Tuesday night rather than joining the Three Lions’ senior squad, according to The Independent. The 18-year-old had been called into both squads and was initially due to join the senior squad for Tuesday’s Euro 12 qualifier with Montenegro, but U-21 coach Stuart Pearce has said that there is a possibility he will speak to senior coach Fabio Capello about keeping Wilshere with the U-21s for their playoff second leg which is also on Tuesday evening.

The former Nottingham Forest defender said: “Obviously, if Fabio needs him the seniors take precedence, but if he feels he can stop with us to get another 90 minutes' worth of experience on Tuesday then he will. But we will do what is best for the player.”
