Arsenal news - Gunners in for Viviano, Begovic and option again, Sagna out of Man City tie

By James McLean

Monday 11 October 2010

Gunners in for Viviano.

Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on Bologna goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano, but face competition from Fiorentina.

The 24-year-old is described in the Daily Mail as a penalty expert – and is co-owned by Inter Milan having left the San Siro last summer. Viviano has also won two international caps to date, and Wenger is believed to be keen to start negotiations in January. Any bid is likely to be complicated by the duel ownership, however, and a deal must be reached with both clubs in order to secure the player’s services.

Begovic and option again.

Another keeper thought to be on Arsene Wenger’s radar is once again Stoke stopper Asmir Begovic.

The Bosnian keeper only moved to the Britannia Stadium in February from relegated Portsmouth, but has been vocal in his desire to move on amid reported interest from the Gunners and top-of-the-table rivals Chelsea. The Sunday Mirror claims that Wenger looks set to table an offer of around £5m – a £1.5m rise on his transfer fee eight months ago, despite only five appearances for the Potters as well as a falling out with boss Tony Pulis.

Sagna out of Man City tie.

Bacary Sagna has heaped more misery on Arsene Wenger by joining his team-mates on the injury table for three weeks. A thigh injury has effectively ruled the Frenchman out of the Gunners’ visit to Man City later this month, as well as their Champions League encounter with Shakhtar Donetsk.

According to Goal.com, Sagna told French TV programme Stade 2: “It's okay. I'm currently in rehabilitation. It will take three weeks. I'll take my time to get back.” Emmanuel Eboue is the favourite to deputise in Sagna’s absence.
