Arsenal news - Chase on for El Mohamady, Denilson linked with Barca, Wilshere up for title challenge

By James McLean

Tuesday 12 October 2010

Wilshere up for title challenge.

Teenage star Jack Wilshere insists the Gunners are capable to challenging champions Chelsea in the race for the title – despite already facing a seven point deficit on their rivals.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Wilshere – who looks set to feature for England in tonight’s Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro at Wembley – said: “I know we are seven points behind, but I think Chelsea will definitely drop points and we've just got to capitalise when they do. Hopefully there aren't too many injuries (ahead for us) but if there are we've got a big squad and we can cope.”

Chase on for El Mohamady.

Arsenal and Manchester United look set to battle for the signature of Sunderland defender Ahmed El Mohamady following his impressive start to life in the Premier League.

The Egyptian is on a season-long loan deal on Wearside, and an agreement is thought to be in place to make the deal permanent. However, the Gunners and the Red Devils are keeping tabs on the form – and availability – of the 23-year-old.

Goal.com reports that the additional interest may prompt Black Cats boss Steve Bruce to make a concerted effort to retain the player on a permanent basis.

Denilson linked with Barca.

Arsenal are likely to have another battle to prevent a star midfielder from departing for Barcelona – but this time in the guise of Brazilian Denilson.

The 22-year-old is currently in his fifth season with Arsenal, with his contract not expiring until 2014. However, according to the Daily Mail, Barcelona’s technical secretary Andoni Zubizaretta will try to convince boss Pep Guardiola to make a move.

The player’s friendship with Cesc Fabregas is thought to be being kept in mind with the view of aiding a future bid for the Spanish international – the subject of much transfer talk recently, with hometown club Barca conducting a very public courtship of the 23-year-old throughout the summer.
