Arsenal news - Hernandez plays down link, Fabregas out for Brum, Wilshere wants lessons learnt

By James McLean

Friday 15 October 2010

Fabregas out for Brum.

Cesc Fabregas is unlikely to return to action against Birmingham on Saturday, according to manager Arsene Wenger. The Spaniard is among a host of top players currently suffering from injuries, including Theo Walcott, Nicklas Bendtner,Kieran Gibbs, Bacary Sagna, Thomas Vermaelen and Robin van Persie.

ESPN reports that despite declaring himself fit, Wenger said the 23-year-old was “very, very short and unlikely to be involved” at the Emirates for the visit of the Blues. The website also states that Vermaelen is still ten days away from full fitness, Almunia is nearing a return and frontman van Persie is still weeks away from a return to first team action.

Wilshere wants lessons learnt.

Jack Wilshere claims that the Gunners must learn from their defeat at home to West Brom three weeks ago. The England starlet is reportedly wary of teams who sit back at the Emirates following the shock 2-3 scalp in the Premier League on September 25 - the precursor to a second consecutive league defeat against champions Chelsea on October 3.

Speaking to the club's official website arsenal.com, the starlet said: “Teams come to Arsenal and hope to catch us on the counter-attack. It worked that day and we have to learn from that. We have to show we can deal with that and get a result on Saturday.”

Hernandez plays down link.

Imposing striker Abel Hernandez has dismissed fresh reports of a move to Arsenal, saying he is happy with current club Palermo for the time being. The 20-year-old former Penarol striker has hit four goals in nine appearances so far this season, and admits he owes a debt of loyalty to Palermo for paying for surgery on a heart problem which prevented a move to Genoa in 2009.

The Mail Online cites the player as saying: “Arsenal want me? I'm very good at Palermo, both in the town and with my team-mates. I'd love to stay another two or three years here, because it would make me grow. Then in the future if there will be an offer by a great club, we'll see,” he said, before adding: “My first experience I had in Italy during a trial with Genoa, they didn't take me for my heart problems, while Palermo believed in me and got me the surgery. For this also, I'll always thank the Rosanero club.”
