Arsenal news - Gunners target Matuidi, Reina clause alerts Arsenal, Randall still has future

By James McLean

Thursday 28 October 2010

Gunners target Matuidi.

Former Arsenal target Blaise Matuidi has told the media that despite reported interest from the likes of Juventus and Real Madrid, should he leave present club St. Etienne his first choice would be a move to the Premier League. The comments are likely to alert Arsene Wenger once again, who could battle with Liverpool for the France international’s signature.

Imscouting.com reports that the 23-year-old told France Soir newspaper: “It is nice to know a club like Juventus is following you or asking about you. (But) the league that would suit me best is the Premier League. This is due to tactical, cultural and physical reasons, and the atmosphere in the stadiums.”

Reina clause alerts Arsenal.

Ironically, the Gunners look set to lock horns with the Kop in another transfer battle too, after it emerged that Liverpool stopper Pepe Reina may have an escape clause written into his contract. The Spaniard allegedly had the clause written in this past summer after being convinced to stay on despite the departure of Rafa Benitez.

Mirror Football believes that both Reina and Fernando Torres had the clause implemented, and both could seek the Anfield exit door in January. The website believes that Torres will be heading to Man City, whereas Reina reportedly has north London or Manchester United on his list of potential destinations.

Randall still has future.

Arsene Wenger has insisted that the door is not closed on Mark Randall’s future at the Emirates, after the 21-year-old agreed a three-month loan deal with Rotherham United. The move came after the youngster found first team opportunities difficult to come by at Arsenal, but Wenger believes the former England U-18 international still has a bright career ahead of him.

The Frenchman told the official club website: “It's important that he plays first-team games and that he gets regular games. At this club he didn't get the breakthrough yet but I am sure he will be a late developer because there is so much quality that I refuse to think he will not make it.”
