Tottenham news - Spurs legend praises Lennon, Bale talks after Inter win, Redknapp praises FA common sense

By James McLean

Wednesday 03 November 2010

Redknapp praises FA common sense.

Harry Redknapp has spoken of common sense prevailing following the FA’s decision not to charge the Spurs boss over his comments on Mark Clattenburg’s refereeing performance at Old Trafford on Saturday. Clattenburg’s decision to allow a controversial goal to stand led to Redknapp raging that the decision to allow the goal to stand was “scandalous.”

The FA investigated the comments but have decided only to warn the 63-year-old. The former Portsmouth manager is now keen to put the affair behind him. According to Sky Sports, he said: “I don't think there was any decision to be made. I don't know what all the fuss was about. I think everybody must've been trying to get me banned. I'm glad common sense prevailed.”

Spurs legend praises Lennon.

Tottenham legend Ricky Villa has told The Sun that he feels winger Aaron Lennon has the potential to follow in Gareth Bale’s example and become one of Spurs’ finest modern day players – as long as he starts to enjoy his football again. Bale has previously stated he feels his great form is down to the fact he is playing with a smile on his face.

Villa said: “I like Lennon because he attacks people. He is quick and when I watch him I expect him to beat people. He has lost a little bit of confidence but nobody can stop him when he is confident. For me, he is a very exciting player. It is very difficult to explain why players lose confidence, but I believe it only takes one good game to get it back.”

Bale talks after Inter win.

Meanwhile, flying Welshman Bale has revelled in Spurs’ impressive 3-1 victory over European champions Inter last night. The winger – who scored a hat-trick in the two sides’ previous encounter at the San Siro last month – produced another fine performance, but was humble about his own showing after the final whistle.

The 21-year-old told Sky Sports: “It was great - it was special beating the European champions. It will be a night that will never be forgotten.” The former Southampton star also took the time to praise the Spurs fans, saying: “They were unbelievable. They acted as a 12th man. They have been fantastic all season and we capped it off for them tonight. It was a special night.”
