Tottenham news - Spurs battle for Castaignos, Levy: No Bale sale, Naughton Leicester link

By James McLean

Wednesday 15 December 2010

Levy: No Bale sale.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has told the club’s fans that star man Gareth Bale will not be sold under any circumstances.

His contract runs until 2014, and there has been a fear around White Hart Lane that Bale could be on his way to the continent. According to The Daily Mail, however, Levy refuted the claims, stating: “I’ve never deemed us to be a selling club if you look at the big transfers which have taken place since I’ve been chairman.

“Gareth has got a long contract and I can assure you he will not be sold.”

Levy did concede, however, that the squad would need trimming in other areas, as has been confirmed by the reportedly imminent departures of Robbie Keane, Niko Kranjcar and David Bentley.

Spurs battle for Castaignos.

Tottenham are battling Arsenal in the race to sign Luc Castaignos from Feyenoord. Inter Milan and Valencia are also in the hunt for the highly-rated 18-year-old’s services. The Dutch international has been described as a young Thierry Henry, and has scored six goals in 19 games so far this season.

European champions Inter are currently the only interested party to have made their interest concrete, according to striker’s agent Arie Treffers.

Football Fan Cast is estimating the potential transfer fee to be in the region of £4m should the player leave De Kuip. Arsenal are also thought to hold an ace up their sleeve, turning to Castaignos’ compatriot Robin van Persie in a bid to convince the starlet that the Emirates is where his future lies.

Naughton Leicester link.

Kyle Naughton is the latest name being linked with a move away from White Hart Lane, with Sven-Goran Eriksson interested in bringing the former Sheffield United defender to Leicester City as part of a £10m spending spree.

Naughton is already enjoying a loan spell at the Walkers Stadium having joined the club at the start of the season, and Eriksson wants to make the move permanent, according to Goal.com.

The former England manager admitted that targeting players is all fine and well, but what matters is convincing them to agree: “We have plenty of targets – but them accepting to come is totally different.”

Naughton’s contribution thus far this season has seen him score twice in his 11 appearances for the Foxes so far, and the 22-year-old is enjoying a growing reputation at the club.
