Blues chase “new Luis Figo”.
Chelsea have joined the race for the man dubbed the “new Luis Figo.” Joao Reis’ string of good performances for current club Louletano in the Portuguese third division have earned him the ambitious nickname, and fellow giants Inter Milan are also interested.
The winger could be set for a week-long trial at Stamford Bridge, and is only on a semi-professional contract in Portugal, according to talkSPORT.
Benfica make up the trio of clubs who have sent scouts to watch Reis in recent months, and thus his departure from Louletano seems increasingly inevitable.
Terry: End of poor form.
Chelsea captain John Terry has spoken of his belief that the club’s poor run of form has ended, reports Goal.com.
The champions’ impressive draw with Spurs at White Hart Lane at the weekend has boosted morale and confidence among the players, and goalkeeper Petr Cech has already spoken of his belief that the club took more than the single point away from the match.
A victory would have sent the Blues temporarily back into top spot, and Terry believes the title is now a realistic ambition once again.
He said: “We've gone through a blip, as we've seen other teams do. We've got a massive home game and it's important now the fans stay with us, even through a bad spell in the game of 10 or 15 minutes, because when you play against a quality side, they are bound to have a good spell of possession.
"As long as we stay solid on the pitch the fans stay with us, I'm sure playing like this, we're going to be back.”
Desailly backs Ancelotti.
Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly has joined the growing list of stars to defend manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Much has been made of Chelsea’s poor form, but Desailly insists criticism of the former AC Milan coach is laughable.
According to ESPN, Desailly said: “I laugh a little bit when I hear this because three months ago he was the man of the moment. He helped Chelsea win the league and the FA Cup and could do no wrong. Yes, he is having a difficult time at the moment and I'm sure he doesn't know himself what is going wrong.
“The energy of the team is not good, the 4-3-3 isn't working anymore and it looks like the midfield is struggling to protect the defence. But Ancelotti is aware of it and I'm sure he will build their confidence back up for them to perform well again.”
