Tottenham news - Spurs plan Carroll swap, Milan to exploit Tottenham defence, Redknapp happy to stay

By James McLean

Sunday 19 December 2010

Spurs plan Carroll swap.

Imscouting.com is reporting that Spurs could be set to offer Peter Crouch, Robbie Keane plus cash in order to land England international Andy Carroll.

The Toon striker has been in lethal form this season, and made his England debut in the friendly with France last month.

He is a much coveted commodity in English football, with several top clubs chasing his services – but with Newcastle eager to boost their striking options, the offer of two strikers plus cash in a deal which would total around £20m may be too good to refuse.

Carroll is a cult hero at his hometown club, and has smashed 10 goals in 17 games this season, and despite recently signing a new five-year deal at St. James’ Park Spurs will still make the offer in January.

With Alan Pardew’s recent arrival, it is thought Carroll will seek talks regarding the club’s ambitions before making any decisions on any offers made for him in either January or the summer.

Redknapp happy to end career at Spurs.

Harry Redknapp has admitted he would be content if his current job at Tottenham proves to be his last in football, according to Goal.com.

Redknapp has managed five clubs throughout his managerial career, but particular success at Spurs has seen the former Portsmouth and Southampton boss mooted as a serious contender to replace current England coach Fabio Capello when the Italian steps down in 2012.

Redknapp told The Mail On Sunday when asked about whether he would be happy if the Spurs job was his last: “Of course I would. For sure, only I don't think that far ahead.

"In this game you just never know. Yeah, it's gone great but I was enjoying my life before and out of the blue suddenly you get a phone call [from Tottenham].

"You go from being the cleverest person in the world to being the biggest idiot in the world. That's how this game works unfortunately. Roy Hodgson was favourite at the start of the year. Alan Curbishley nearly had it last time, now he can't get a job in the Premier League. Who knows what happens in 18 months time?"

Milan to exploit Tottenham defence.

Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has stoked the flames of battle after being drawn against Tottenham in the last-16 of the Champions League, declaring the draw as one of the“least tricky” Milan could have faced.

The comments will not have gone down well at White Hart Lane, where there is serious belief that Spurs could push some of the competition’s top sides this season.

The leaky defence at White Hart Lane is something that the former Cagliari boss intends to exploit however.

Allegri told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “All the teams who have made it this far are good, but it could have been worse.

"Tottenham score freely and have quality up front, but they always give something away at the back. [They] are certainly an excellent team, but they are one of the least tricky of the possible opponents.”

While personally I generally agree with Phil in saying I doubt Andy Carroll is heading anywhere in the near future, I sincerely don't think his perceived loyalty to his hometown club is likely to last an entire career the way most Newcastle fans seem to think it will. He loves playing for his hometown club for now, but eventually I think he will want a move to a top four club, especially if and when his England slot comes under threat.

Phil, I respectfully disagree with you. Spurs are in the Champions league..not the group stages, but the KNOCKOUT stages of the champions league. Caroll may look at this opportunity to join a team that is seriously rising in the ranks of european football to solidify his career. Newcastle is on the rise as well, but you JUST got promoted from the second division. Remember, when you went down we climbed higher up. Regardless whether we advance in the champions league or only qualify for the Europa league we will be playing against top teams in Europe with a great squad...players that can improve his game. Van der Vaart played for Real MAdrid and SIGNED FOR SPURS. WE ARE A TOP DRAW CLUB....more now than in the summer. Champions league says everything. We may sign Caroll, but we probably have more seasoned strikers in mind.

I don't understand why Spurs defence keeps getting mentioned the reason is we have not had a defence since the start of the season when we drew 0-0 against Man City. This means we cant play has a unit We had Gallas and Kaboul who just started to get a good understanding then injury's struck and Kaboul got injured in came Bassong then Gnallas got injured Now its Dawson and Bassong they have played together so they already have a good understanding. The unfortunate thing against Chelsea Drogba used his arm to beat Dawson and score when a clean sheet should have won the game. King Woodgate along with Dawso ll means we will have an embarrassment of ritches

2 "Nowhere but Lahnden" old has-been's for an exciting up and coming TWENTY ONE year old England centre forward who is with the club he supports, to a club getting 25% lower crowds, and are just one win above Newcastle ? Wake up, pillock. Wish all you like, it isn't going to happen. Spuds are NOT Real Madrid, or Barca - they are NOT a big draw for a player. Ashley and Pardew would be lynched or burned at the stake if he tried it.
