Arsenal news - Gunners in for Latvian, Barca back in for Fabregas, Diaby: We can beat Barca

By James McLean

Sunday 19 December 2010

Barca back in for Fabregas.

Mirror Football is this morning reporting that Barcelona could be set to renew their interest in Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas, and plan to raid Premier League rivals Liverpool for Fernando Torres as well.

Fabregas was chased for much of last summer by his boyhood club, and while the Spaniard made no secret of his desire to return o the Camp Nou he has settled back into life at the Emirates thus far this season.

Barca have signed a huge sponsorship deal with Qatar Foundation which will bring in around £125m over five years, and as a result the extra cash may allow the club to step up their efforts in tempting Fabregas back.

It is thought the offers would be made in the summer and not in the January window, however, and with money no object it appears Fabregas could once more be tempted back to his spiritual home.

Gunners in for Latvian.

Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry about the availability of Latvian striker Artjoms Rudnevs, and could be set to make a £5m approach for the Lech Poznan star in January.

The news is direct from the player himself, who understands that the Gunners have spoken to his agent, according to givemefootball.com.

According to talkSPORT, he said: “My agent is working on several issues. Barcelona might be my favourites at the moment but the Premier League attracts me.

"I know that Arsenal have seen me in action and have asked my agent. It would be sensational because for me their game is amazing. I cherish my future.”

Diaby: We can beat Barca.

Abou Diaby believes Arsenal are more than capable of beating Barcelona in the Champions League after the repeat of last season’s quarter final tie was confirmed earlier this week.

According to Sky Sports, Diabe told L’Equipe that he felt Barca were not unbeatable, though recent history favours the Catalans, Last season, Lional Messi turned in a classic performance and bagged four against the Gunners, but Diabe is confident that his side are capable of laying those ghosts to rest.

He said: “It is true they are the biggest favourites, but above all it will be a great show.

"If we had managed the group stage better, we would have avoided them. It will be very difficult, but no team is unbeatable.

"The team that keeps the ball better will win.”
