Chelsea news - Blues target Pato, Micah move? Carlo: We need more

By James McLean

Monday 10 January 2011

Carlo: We need more.

Carlo Ancelotti has warned the champions that they have not yet turned the corner from their poor form, despite progressing to the FA Cup fourth round with an impressive 7-0 victory over Ipswich Town.

The Italian coach also took the time to praise Chelsea’s following, who ended the game chanting his name to prove that Friday’s one-man protest calling for his head was an isolated incident.

According to The Press Association, the 51-year-old said: “The result was good and we did a lot of things well in this game - the performance of the team, the strikers scoring again. We don't have to be excited. But, obviously, with this victory, our confidence will improve. We have to wait to say everything is okay.

“It's very nice, obviously, to hear the fans like that. We all have to be close, and the fans showed fantastic support today.”

Blues target Pato.

Chelsea have reignited their interest in AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato, and Carlo Ancelotti wants to do everything he can to secure a reunion with the striker he coached during his tenure at the San Siro, according to Imscouting.com.

A bid is thought likely to be made upon the return of Milan managing director Adriano Galliani from Brazil, where he is currently negotiating the sale of Ronaldinho.

Pato has long been on the Blues’ wishlist, but is contracted to the Italian outfit until 2014. He has scored eight goals in 13 this season, and a bid of at least €30m would be required in order to tempt i Rossoneri into negotiations.

Micah move?

Chelsea are also thought to be in the market for strengthening their defence, with Man City’s Micah Richards considered a likely target, with Goal.com reporting that the champions are willing to wait until the summer to acquire their man.

Richards has admitted he could seek a move away from the City of Manchester Stadium in order to seek regular first team football.

The double winners are wanting to strengthen their defence, which has appeared weak in depth at times this season. Richards has been assured by City boss Roberto Mancini that he remains a part of the club’s long-term plans, but a bid of around £20m could see him make the switch to London in the summer.
