Tottenham news - Neville link resurfaces, Levy: We must leave The Lane, Jenas in Spurs exit

By James McLean

Wednesday 26 January 2011

Levy: We must leave The Lane.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has insisted that the club must leave White Hart Lane regardless of whether they succeed in their bid for the Olympic Stadium, according to The Sporting Review.

Levy believes that a bigger modern stadium is required in order to build on the progress and success of recent seasons.

He said: “I think the problem with the current situation that we are in now at White Hart Lane is that the project is currently not viable so we would have to go back to the drawing board and that would obviously mean looking at other locations again.

“I’m totally confident that we would have no problem selling out a 60,000-seater stadium [at Stratford]. As far as the fans are concerned, I have to say that it is a very, very small group of individuals that are making it clear that whatever happens – even if we couldn’t build a bigger stadium – that they would want us to stay here.”

Neville link resurfaces.

Spurs are looking to follow up the signing of Steven Pienaar by making a move for his former Everton team-mate Phil Neville, according to The Liverpool Daily Post.

Toffees manager David Moyes has previously stated he would not welcome any offers for the former Man United midfielder, but Neville is thought to fit Redknapp’s criteria for his next signing.

The Spurs manager wants to add a genuine right-back to his squad, and ideally one with experience and leadership qualities, and considers Neville an ideal candidate to fill each of these roles. His versatility on the pitch would also allow for additional cover in midfield should it be required.

Jenas in Spurs exit.

Jermaine Jenas looks as though he could be leaving the club shortly, according to Football.co.uk.

The former Newcastle man is increasingly likely to depart due as Harry Redknapp wishes to offload at least one of his midfielders during the current transfer window.

Niko Kranjcar had previously appeared favourite for the axe, but a lack of genuine interest in the Croatian has prompted Aston Villa to up their interest in the England midfielder.

Villa boss Gerard Houllier wants to reshape his midfield and hopes to offload Steven Ireland, and sees Jenas as the man to step into Ireland’s boots at Villa Park.
