Wigan - Tottenham: Match preview and team news

Bookmark and Share

By Tim Doel

Saturday 24 September 2011

After a sticky start to their Premier League campaign against the two Manchester clubs, Tottenham have bounced back from that double defeat to win their other two fixtures, against Wolves and Liverpool, and without conceding. Wigan on the other hand have started the season with three matches unbeaten, but have since lost their last two league games, making this a meeting between a team in form against one in search of points.

Jermain Defoe drops out of the squad oweing to injury, ending a promising partnership with Emmanuel Adebayor up-front. As a result Rafael van der Vaart returns from a hamstring injury to play just behind the Togo international. Brazilian midfielder Sandro also returns from injury, coming in at the expense of Kranjcar. Tom Huddlestone, Aaron Lennon and Michael Dawson are out injured.

Wigan will be without star man Hugo Rodallega with a knee injury picked up against Everton last week, and is expected to be out for up-to a month. Emmerson Boyce misses out injured.

Teams (confirmed)

Wigan: Habsi, Gohouri, Caldwell, Van Aanholt, Figueroa, McCarthy, Watson, Moses, Diame, Di Santo

Tottenham: Friedel; Walker, Kaboul, King, Assou-Ekotto; Modric, Parker, Sandro, Bale; Van der Vaart, Adebayor
