Chelsea boss Di Matteo to scout Bayern Munich in person

Bookmark and Share

By Andrew Tuft

Saturday 12 May 2012

Interim Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo will take a trip to Germany on Saturday to watch Champions League final opponents Bayern Munich in person in the German Cup final against Borussia Dortmund, the Guardian has reported.

The newspaper adds that Sunday’s final league game of the season, at home to Blackburn Rovers has been rendered meaningless - Chelsea can finish no higher or lower than sixth and Blackburn’s relegation was confirmed earlier in the week. Di Matteo will therefore pick a weakened side, one without either Gary Cahill or David Luiz, who have been ruled out of the match but the Chelsea boss still hopes they will return for the match with Bayern on May 19.

Di Matteo will watch Bayern play Bundesliga champions Dortmund at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. To get to the final Bayern defeated Borussia Monchengladbach 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the semi-final, while Dortmund scraped past Greuther Furth with a goal in the last minute of extra-time to win their semi-final 1-0.
