Liverpool midfielder Henderson waiting on England Euro 2012 call-up
Jordan Henderson, the Liverpool midfielder placed on England’s standby list for Euro 2012, is waiting to hear if he will be in the travelling party after all following an injury to Chelsea’s Frank Lampard, the Liverpool Echo has reported.
Henderson was overlooked when Gareth Barry pulled out of the 23 with a stomach injury, with Roy Hodgson preferring to turn to Everton defender Phil Jagielka instead, but Lampard is reportedly struggling with a thigh injury, potentially opening the door for Henderson to travel to Poland and Ukraine.
Lampard is to have a scan on the ailment on Thursday, the results of which will determine his and Henderson’s immediate international future. Lampard only joined up with the squad this week, having been given extra rest by Hodgson after Chelsea’s exertions in the Champions League final, which they won on penalties against Bayern Munich. If Henderson is added to the squad he will be among familiar faces with four other Liverpool players present - Glen Johnson, Stewart Downing, Andy Carroll and the captain of Liverpool and England, Steven Gerrard.
