Tottenham tell Man Utd to up their Modric offer

Saturday 09 June 2012

Tottenham Hotspur will not consider selling Luka Modric to Manchester United for less than £35m, to the Daily Mail has reported, after it had been suggested Sir Alex Ferguson was hoping to land the Croatia international for substantially less.

The newspaper adds that United hoped to sign Modric for closer to £25m but that idea has been given short shrift by Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy, who a year ago stood firm in the face of interest in the player from Chelsea, who the Daily Telegraph reported at the time were willing to pay up to £40m for the playmaker.

Modric will reportedly consider his next step once Croatia’s involvement in Euro 2012 is at an end. Slaven Bilic’s side are in Group C, along with the Republic of Ireland, captained by Modric’s former Tottenham teammate Robbie Keane, Italy and World and European champions Spain. Croatia kick-off their tournament against Ireland on Sunday.
