Klinsmann rules out Tottenham job
Jurgen Klinsmann has ruled himself out of a return to White Hart Lane to take the managerial vacancy left by Harry Redknapp’s departure this week. The Daily Mail have reported that the current USA coach will not be on his way back to North London to manage the club he played for 56 times.
The German’s publicist, Roland Eitel said: “It just isn’t a realistic proposition for Jurgen at the moment… He has very fond memories of White Hart Lane and needs no reminding that it is a big job. He has the utmost respect for Tottenham” Before finally adding: “But the timing isn’t right”.
Klinsmann would have no doubt been a popular appointment for the Tottenham fans after serving the club well – scoring 30 goals – during his two spells at the club.
Immediately after Redknapp was let go by Tottenham bookies suspended all bets on Everton boss David Moyes becoming Spurs’ manager. But after a couple of days it seems other candidates are starting the come to the forefront.
Dave Whelan has already said that he would allow Roberto Martinez to speak with Daniel Levy and the Tottenham board but so far no contact has been made, the Wigan chairman said:
“I have not been approached, and Roberto has not been approached… I think it’s a pie in the sky that Spurs want Roberto… That’s not to say they won’t” adding “If Tottenham come to and ask to speak to him, I have to say the answer is yes. It always is. You cannot stop managers moving on.”
However the latest favourite to emerge is former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, the 34-year-old was sacked by the European Champions in February, but is said to be keen to get back into management.
