Arsenal to consider Denilson Sao Paulo loan repeat

Friday 29 June 2012

Sao Paulo are hoping to keep Arsenal midfielder Denilson on loan for another season.

The Daily Mail have reported that the Brazilian side can’t afford the £6 million transfer fee for the 24-year-old and are hoping, due to his lack of first team opportunities in North London, that they will be able to keep him for another year on loan.

The vice-president of Sao Paulo, Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes, has spoken publicly about the clubs desire to keep Denilson for as long as possible, he said: “Arsenal’s staff want him to return but we are for Adalberto Baptista [director of football] to have talks with them. Maybe we will manage to extend the loan for six months or even another year.”

Arsenal are thought to be keen on keeping the young Brazilian, only loaning him out last season to help his development as a player. Lopes did concede that the Premier League side have been impressed with Denilson’s performances in South America. He said: “They liked his performances, they liked Denilson’s development. That’s why they want him to return.”

Denilson’s time in Sao Paulo has not been an easy ride the whole way through. When he first started his second spell at the club he was sent off twice in his first three matches and had a number of controversial incidents with the club’s fans that led to demands for him to never play for Sao Paulo again.
