Chelsea have Lewandowski offer rejected

Chelsea have had an offer for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski turned down as the Champions League winners continue to shape their squad for the new Premier League season, ESPN has reported.

The Blues are said to have offered £17m for the Poland international, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson watched Lewandowski score a hat-trick against Bayern Munich in the German Cup final in May. However, it appears Chelsea have tried to steal a march on United but have been foiled by Dortmund’s rejection.

Lewandowski has in the past admitted he would like to play in the Premier League but the 23-year-old also insisted he was happy to remain at Dortmund for a while longer. His current club are thought to value him at more than £20m.

ESPN claim that Chelsea turned to Lewandowski after considering a £35m bid for Napoli forward Edinson Cavani, with Lewandowski the club’s favourite after concerns Cavani would not fit into Chelsea’s style of play.
