Tottenham turn to Kamara as Modric replacement

Thursday 09 August 2012

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for life without Luka Modric as Andre Villas-Boas lines up a move for Partizan Belgrade midfielder Mohamed Kamara, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Despite not yet agreeing a fee for Modric with Real Madrid Spurs are said to be resigned to losing the Croatia international sooner rather than later. The two clubs have been in negotiations for much of the summer and are currently at something of a stalemate, but the Tottenham hierarchy is moving ahead with targets to replace Modric.

Spurs have turned to the 24-year-old Kamara as an alternative to Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho. Kamara would cost in the region of £12m, substantially less than the Portugal international, who the Mirror claim would move for around twice that amount.

Kamara - commonly known as Medo - is a Sierra Leone international who moved to Partizan in 2010. While in Serbia the former HJK Helsinki player has won the league title twice and the Serbian Cup once.
